Where have the days gone when your daughter wanted your hand-me-down eye shadow, lipstick or blush?
Following in the footsteps of beauty bloggers and influencers, teenagers are now mastering the art of makeup all on their very own and wearing makeup proudly, yet with sophistication.
Makeup is all part of being a girl, but it’s hard to know where to draw the line with experimentation.
As a teen, Rachael Finch vividly remembers looking through the contents of her Mum’s beauty collection, and the shock horror when she looked in the mirror for the first time with red chunky lipstick all over her front teeth.
She laughs, “I don’t think I wore red lipstick again until my 21st birthday.”
Nowadays of course, Rachael has makeup artists on hand to ensure she looks a vision for a variety of events and appearances, but thanks to her beauty ambassador role with Amcal Pharmacy, she has some great recommendations for teenagers wanting to start experimenting with make-up.
Rachael knows what’s essential, what’s reasonably priced and what the best beauty products are for teenagers and recommends Colour Theory, a versatile collection of makeup tools and applicators perfect for anyone’s handbag.
Blush A Little
Colour Theory Flawless Angle Blush Brush, RRP $12.00
“The perfect beginners’ tool for those just starting out,” she said.
“A little blush on the cheeks accentuates a natural feature, while at the same time allowing them to start playing with makeup in pretty pink and purple tones.”
Keep It Colourful
Colour Theory Nail Polish, Flamingo, RRP $4.00
“Go for a subtle pink on the nails on special occasions, it’s a great opportunity to spend some quality time together without being over the top in the makeup department.”
As they develop into the later years as teenagers, Rachael suggests some other products:
“Now that they have their basics down pat, bolder colours can come into play,” she said.
Refresh Your Complexion
Colour Theory Bronzer, Sun Kissed RRP $10.00
“The biggest trend at the moment is the natural look – a bronzer adds glow to their skin in summer and creates the sun-kissed look during winter.”
Make A Statement!
Colour Theory Lip Gloss, Hot Shot, RRP $10.00
“Makeup can make people feel confident in their own skin and accentuates stunning face features. This easy application lip gloss is the perfect starting point when trying a bold lip for the first time.”
Fan those flames and go smoky
Colour Theory Eye Shadow Duo, Berrylicious, RRP $8.00
“Eye shadow can take the most practice and this little duo is an ideal starter kit. The lighter colour goes all over the lid to make the eye seem bigger while the darker colour goes in the crease to add definition, and always remember to blend!”
Celeste Barber is indisputably the queens of keeping it real.
From her realistic AF selfies to her video challenges of duplicating such gems as Miranda Kerr’s $4 million-dollar smoothie, Celeste hands down touches a nerve with Mums who totes get that life is not as glamorous as some would like to have us to believe.
Yet there’s a new voice emerging – in Fisher-Price, who in conjunction with some of Australia’s most influential mums, is celebrating and empowering parents across the country to stand proud and show the beauty and realness of how sucky parenting can be via their social channels.
Enter the Fisher-Price Challenge, a social media campaign spearheaded by the hugely admired and followed; Clementine McVeigh and Marcia Leone, broadcasting the toughness and not-so glamorous sides of parenting.
Since sharing their stories, the #FisherPriceChallenge is receiving interest from other mum’s across the globe, and together they’re calling for more parents to get on board and empower each other by simply sharing an honest, authentic social media post about the realities of being a parent.
Whether the living room looks like it’s been turned upside down or an outfit change is required five times a day – the world of mum’s want to hear about it using #FisherPriceChallenge.
So, what are you waiting for. Go take a pic of the washing pile and get amongst it!
Drinking coffee is overrated when you’re a Mum. Let’s face it, when you really need to sleep, you can’t quite get there, and a cup of joe has the tendency to produce an anxiety attack that’s bigger than Donald Trump’s ego. Lord knows that’s the last thing an exhausted Mums adrenals require.
The alternative, of course, is tea. And one that is especially made for women is hitting our sweet (and sleep) spot.
Tea co Pukka has released a range of Womankind tea, with a few unique blends of balancing, regulating herbs to help women feel rejuvenated and find balance throughout the month.
An everyday blend to help women balance and bloom, Womankind helps to regulate hormonal balance for women at all life stages. Offering a delicate organic blend of delicious cranberry, shatavari to balance hormones and regulate the menstrual cycle, as well as delicate rose and sweet vanilla, this cup helps to find your perfect balance.
There’s a blend for pregnant Mums called Motherkind Pregnancy, a nurturing blend that’s been designed to support a healthy pregnancy, while Pukka Motherkind Baby has been expertly blended to support mother and baby and promote a healthy milk supply.
A natural support to a healthy pregnancy, the Motherkind Pregnancy tea has been delicately blended with key herbal ingredients to support women during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Raspberry leaf strengthens uterine muscles and prepares for birth, shatavari supports a healthy uterine environment, while nettle and mint work in conjunction to help ease morning sickness.
Motherkind Baby is a nourishing blend of functional herbs that support mother and baby during breastfeeding. This caffeine-free tea uses only the purest, 100% organic and sustainably sourced ingredients that nourish and protect the body from inflammation and pain, increase the flow of milk during breastfeeding and ease colic in babies. Sweet fennel seed, a natural galactagogue, encourages the production of breast milk. The hero herb, shatavari root, stimulates the production of prolactin in breastfeeding, therefore increasing the flow of milk. Bitter fennel seed adds delicious flavor alongside an ability to stimulate digestion, and turmeric is soothing and calming due to its natural anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, as well as containing antioxidants to protect mother and baby from any nasty free radicals.
All retail for RRP $7.95 and are perfect for pregnant women wanting to avoid caffeine and still seek solace in a comforting cup of bliss.
We have 3 x packs of each of the x 3 teas each in a Pukka canvas bag RRP $48.90 per pack.
To win, tag us on INSTAGRAM @motherdriven #PukkaTeaParty with a photo of you and your favorite tea cup. Winners will be announced on our Facebook page on 28/2/18.
Now we were the first to laugh at the now famous active wear viral video, yet it’s hard to deny the benefits of the uniform de jour of Mums everywhere.
C’mon, what’s not to love? Easy to wash, easy to dry, easy to wear, no ironing required and as at home in the gym as it is on the street or at Aldi – the benefits of lycra and spandex are as obvious as they are undeniable.
The only down side? You can only wear so much black or Lorna Jane (awkward when your entire Mother’s group are wearing the same leggings to the café). Enter new active wear brand Your Island Supply.
Launched in late 2017, the brand is created by a husband and wife team Duncan and Dhanya who live, eat and sleep the ethos of the brand. The couple are activated as – dividing their time between Noosa in Queensland and Manly in NSW, the surfing enthusiasts saw an opportunity to create tropical-inspired, functional active wear and have run with ball.
According to Dhanya,“I wanted to mix things up a bit. I see so many women wearing plain leggings when they train in and out of the gym. I personally wanted to wear colourful vibrant active wear that made me feel happy when I wear them and in turn motivates me to exercise.”
And so it was.
The result are offerings that are multi-coloured, loud and tropical-luxe and range in length, including 7/8 length and ‘crop’. We’ve included a few of our favourites for your drooling pleasure.
To snag a pair of these beautiful leggings from Your Island Supply, valued at $89 FOLLOW @yourislandsupplyactive, TAG a friend to share the love, and TELL us your fav workout for a chance to WIN.

The age-old pickle of leaving baby/kids asleep in the car while I just duck in to pay at the servo has finally been solved – and parents around Australia are rejoicing!
